Oh Elana...I'm so sorry! I had no idea you lost him. My heart is breaking for you!

I had something similar happen about a month ago. I had a pair of parrotlets, Sam and Annie. I bought a new cage for them from a friend, and wasn't used to the way the doors closed. You have to make sure you push them all the way down. I apparently didn't, leaving about an inch open at the bottom of one of the doors. Annie, being the incredibly curious one, got out. Apparently my dog Otis got her. We found her little body outside behind a bush. Sam called out for her until I presented her body, and then he seemed to understand. I got Kathleen shortly after so he wouldn't be lonely. It was awful.

Oh no Stacie! I will leave my house and have panic attack in the car a mile away trying to remember if I secured my parrot's cage.

My dog too would kill the parrot if given the chance.

Otis is part dachshund and he's definitely a hunter...he's killed two rats that we were having trouble catching in our house. They would sneak in at night and go out during that day. He likes to grab and shake things, including his toys. I know that's what he did to her

Yep I remember the picture! A good mouser, he is! Unfortunately those type of puppies that are the most dangerous around our birds.

If you remember Hammy flew out in the hallway and straight into my dog's mouth last year. I was just lucky and she dropped Hammy immediately after I screamed bloody murder!! She was covered in dog spit.

I'm s so sorry Stacie.
So you know exactly how I felt about Kenzie and Katy...
You love your dog and you love your birds. When one kills the other, it's double the heartache, isn't it.

Regarding the flight with the stupid door. I lost one of my Parrot Finches to that kind of a door as well. It didn't close all the way, and he somehow snuck out of the flight along with a Zebra and a Society.

I noticed the door sometime later, and right away saw the Zebra and the Socie. I caught them and secured the door with a twist tie. Regretably I didn't notice the PF missing from the same flight, he must have been hiding somewhere in the room, and I didn't see him. I found him sitting on the window sill 2 days later. He was extremely dehydrated, and starving. Eventhough I offered water and food, he was just too far gone and didn't survive, sigh...

Anytime I have my parrotlet Charlie out, Otis looks at me with this incredibly guilty look!

Otis grabbed a male gouldian I had gotten last year, and he dropped him when I screamed, but he didn't make it either. That poor bird lasted less than an hour in my house!

Oh geeez....

Yea, I had a cat, who snapped a juvie Gouldian right from under the bathroom door . One minute he was there, then a furry paw appeared under the door, and one swipe and he was gone.

I really wanted to murder my cat after that incident, and there have been others over the years...
