Got the cages and lights today! Super excited. My birds are loving it and their free flying time! Just a pain in the neck gettin em back in their cages.

Yes, I wouldn't let him do it. I would just wait until you find a finch you really like and then put them together. I know there are sites. I just don't know where they are. You can look through the "Genetics" gallery or put a search in to find old links. I know others have posted images and discussions about this recently. I would keep that bad boy away from her though, or be willing to take the eggs away if...something happens.
You can have a bunch of birds, but you want the best genetics possible!

I sure do:) i think im gonna keep him single though...i dont know yet. May use him to foster. The female is bonded to the male (squirt) i placed her with. She fends off the other males. Do finch pair up for life?

Sorry Justin, I didn't see your posts above. They don't necessarily bond for life. She just met him also. You can arrange another mate especially if you separate them now. Before you make any decisions, look up about zebra/societies mixing and you won't be able to reproduce their offspring.
I love the cages, the set up. Looking great!!!

Haha...our posts crossed each other. I think I answered your questions though. It's good if she fends him off and is bonded to another. It's good too if you have him to foster in case something happens.

Yea ill just let him foster:) he wont be lonely for Long, then he will have screaming mouths to feed!
The biggest thing im affraid of while letting them free fly is them breeding with someone else lol. I place the pairs together cause i want to see the offspring. I just dont want them being little……hmm how do i say it nicely…. I dont want her sleeping around and have the male finch shes caged/supposed to be with, takin care of some other finches babies hahahahaha oh my word that sounds like a jerry springer

If it were me, I wouldn't let them free until they are established as couples first. You know...truly in love. I've never had a male and female that were not a pair, just...sleep around. They're very good at evasion if they don't want to get involved...so to speak. Maybe someone else has had a different experience, but that has been mine. At least let them get established before you do let her be exposed to possible Don Juan's.

That's good....as long as they don't think the grass is greener on the other side. Just kidding. I'm sure you chose wisely!
