Elana ... sounds like you're the breeding guru heehee. We definitely weren't intending to let them get into it so quickly but oh well, looks like we'll be having this brand new experience sooner rather than later... I just hope these two prove to be good parents :D

Not a breeding Guru [-X .
I wasn't going to breed at all ~X( ~X( ~X( , birds however had other ideas, what can you do?

Sounds like your new babes, are of a mind to give you even newer babes, lol. You may as well give in, and offer them a larger nest/nest box. If they're going to go for it, they may as well have enough space to raise a family, grandma.

Heehee ... wee devils they are. No chance to put in a new box/nest, after just 2 days, the wee beggars have basically built themselves one, on top of the little half nest that was there. Hubby said at lunchtime today that its looking amazing & he's given them more nesting material as he doesn't see any reason not to let them continue, they've been weaving and building like beavers. Looks like they are going to use the half nest as a base to the their own homebuilt job. I'll try and get a photo when I get home of their efforts. I'm just so amazed. Never seen anything like it in person. Have you had any experience of the humming cricket like noise they make Elana? Its so cute! :D

I actually haven't heared them make that sound, which doesn't mean they haven't made it. With everyone else here singing, whistling, meaping and beeping, honking and twitering, it's difficult to say who's making what noise.

I know my guy makes this trilling sound, like a battle cry, as he goes on the rampage, scattering the poor girls to all directions, until he grabs one and nails her

Looking forward to a picture of the ongoing construction.

Well look at that, those little rascals. They are bound and determined, aren't they?

Keep giving them nesting materials and see what they do. I'm curious to see how elaborate they get with their building.

I know right?! Its very elaborate too, can't show it in the photograph but its actually woven through all the bars of the cage! Wee devils! We gave them some more nesting materials this morning, so will be interesting to see where they're up to when I get home tonight. They are also very protective of the nest but also calm at the same time. They are acting so differently from any other finches we've ever had. I wish I could record the cricket humming for you, its the most amazing noise :D

Heehee they're interesting to say the least ... daily they build & destroy, like they're not happy with construction. They have already built and destroyed once today and are now rebuilding again. Goodness knows what's in their wee feathery minds. Pic attached of construction round 2 from today :YMDAYDREAM:

Isn't it funny how some birds just build and tear down, takes them forever to get it just right to their liking.

I think they're doing a wonderful job =D> .
They will probably keep at it, until your girl sits down one day and goes.... oops, what's this ? An egg ! How did that happen?

It's funny to watch. I've also done a bit of research on the 'cricket' noise. Seemingly the hen makes the noise & it means she's not far off wanting to lay. Hmmmmmmm .... busy birdies & maybe babies <3
