I would transport them in the covered hospital cage. Just make sure everyone has a perch to sit on.

Well today was the day. John helped me catch all the finches and we put them in the hospital cage.

Then I took them up to the aviary, got a little lost along the way and it took me more than an hour to get there instead of 45 min like it should have  John couldn't come he's preparing for a conference and presentation next week so I went alone. Before going I reviewed the website you gave me that showed the bird nostrils.... WELL all their nostrils looked the same to me lol! So they had a lutino that is ready to go in 2 weeks and they had 1 bluish one and one greenish one that will be ready in 3 - 5 weeks. So I picked the one I thought was the prettiest since all their nostrils looked white to me lol!
This is Burt!

Now I just have to hope that gas prices come down so I can afford to go visit him more than once a week!

Ahh it's a cutie!

I didn't realize you were choosing one so young. They are very difficult to sex at that age for sure. A few mutations, like the lutinos, are even difficult when they are more mature.

If you don't mind, I will post his photo on my budgie forum and see what the experts think.

Thanks Steve!! I know they're so ugly they really are cute, I love the spiky pin feathery stage!
That'd be great Tammie! I'm joining one of those forums you had posted too, so I can ask all my newbie questions :D
Yeah that's the nice thing about this aviary, they take them from the nest after they're a couple weeks old and hand feed until weaning so when you get a hand fed bird they are SUPER tame and cuddly!

EEP! I went to go see Squeaker-Burt today and OMG has he grown!! He's getting so grown up! I asked the woman when she thought I could bring him home and she said maybe as early as next Saturday, which is great, but sucks b/c I work Saturdays and Sundays and they're closed Mondays and Tuesdays SO I'd have to wait until Wednesday, but that's ok I guess they like them to be eating on their own for a full week before they go home and a few more days won't hurt him. Boy did I have a hard time getting a good shot of him!! Little guy is totally active and all over the place lol, I took more than a dozen shots and don't have any really great pics but here's the best of the bunch :D

Amazing how quickly they grow ain't it. Squeaker Burt is gonna be stunning very soon, once the rest of the feathers come in.

Indeed Crystal, he is an Opaline Spangle Sky Blue, or Opaline Sky Blue Spangle... something like that... actually he's probably a she lol, but whatever!
Thanks guys, I'm so in love with him! I actually have to limit myself to only a few toys a week Rue!! I've already bought 7 for him! I've started filling his cage, but I had to take a few out until I get the perches in. I took some maple branches from outside, stripped off the bark, bleached them then baked them in the oven for an hour and now I just need John to drill the holes in the end so I can mount them in the cage :D Then I can add more toys  He's got plastic jingly balls and a rope twisty thing with beads and a bell, and plastic rings that are like a ladder, and a wood and bead with natural fibre rope, and a coconut husk, wood and leather toy, and a set of plastic rings all jumbled together, plus that little soother toy you saw in the pics. It's really fun doing and picking toys out for him! I'm going to get him a big swing too, but I have to get my perches in first so I can get an appropriate sized swing, some are really cool with dangly bits and such so the more interesting swing I can fit in there the better :D
