Tears

I've avoided logging into the site, fearing the torrent of tears that I choke down everyday since my tragedy. While out of town, I received a call saying that my bird cage was on it's side and all six of the (nearly colored out) baby Goulds were gone. I'd twist tied the cage doors shut, but their babysitter forgot to put a tie back on. I suspect a cat jumped on the cage and the door flew open.

I am just a couple weeks from finishing my aviary too. Thankfully Mom and Dad are safe in their cage. They were terrific parents. I hope they will do it again. They made beautiful babies

I can Empathise with you my rabbit escaped this morning and on my way to give it food and water I saw my dog eating it. It wasnt a pet it was a 4-H project so i wasnt as upset. Also i used to have 2 tiels. I woke up one morning and one was on the bottom of the cage panting. We took it to the vet and on the way home it jumped and broke its neck in the corner of the cage. When I walked into the house there were feathers everywhere. Apparently in all the excitment the cage didnt get locked and the other one escaped. Sorry to say but it became a toy for my dogs and cat.

Thanks everyone for words of consolation. Gizmo, I had to read your message a couple times, it is so sad that you went through that with your pets. I understand that your rabbit wasn't a pet, but still...

That is beyond horrible... I'm sure it ruined your vacation too... I would not be happy with the babysitter's cat!

Actually, the "babysitter" was my DH who had to interrupt our trip and fly home for business. I asked him to supply fresh water and food before he flew back. He has ADD (attention deficit disorder) so I should have anticipated that he might neglect to replace the twist ties.

As for "the cat", I am assuming that a prowling feline entered our yard and did the deed.

I am getting my mind off of my loss by concentrating on my soon to be completed flight/aviary. Mom and Pop Gould may like their new digs so much that they will be ready to start a new family.
