I thought I might post this info for those who might be interested in attending. The Bird Mart is Oct. 13 at the Will Rogers Exhibit Hall in Ft. Worth, and the Ft. Worth Bird Club's annual Bird Show is Sep 28-29 in Grapevine. You can get info about both these events at
www.fwbc.org.
Actually, I just checked the Bird Show schedule, and Sep 28 is just for entering birds in the show, the show itself is on Sep 29.

I may go to a wedding in Texas on October 20th??? Maybe I can trade birds with someone there while I'm there to get some new blood around here.
Sometimes I go to petstores, and I wonder how many people are actually breeding birds that are related. Many buy a male and female at the same time (and they are probably brother and sister).

You know, Emily, I often wonder about that even with the Bird Mart. Even if I buy from different vendors, I don't really know where they got their stock. So I could buy a bird at the Mart, and it could be a relative of a bird I already have! I always put colored split bands on my babies, so I can tell which family they belong to, and then when I sell them as a group, say to the feed store, I always tell them that the birds with the same color band are brothers and sisters, and should not be sold as a pair. Of course, no telling if the store is passing this information on to the buyer.

I think it happens a lot more than we think.... which sucks for the birds. Maybe that is part of the reason some people are having such a hard time breeding their birds, b/c they are related...

If you go to the Bird Mart, they open at 10am, and the best selection is available then. I will be in the line when they open the doors. In the afternoon, some sellers will have sold out or sold enough birds that they go on home, so you want to be there early.
