A new canary.
It's been a while since we've had one. I know it's best to not buy them from the chain stores, but he was there and I just couldn't resist. I watched him for a long time, and he looked very healthy, healthier than I've ever seen a pet store canary actually. And he was an orange colored red factor, which we have a soft spot for.
So, if you go look in the gallery, you can see the new family member.

Oh my....he is a little cutie pie!! Does he have a name yet?
Now do you have to feed him a special blend to keep him in the RED coloring? I thought I remember seeing some special seed for red factor canaries at the petstore.

No name yet, still waiting to get to know his personality first.
The red factors-on a normal seed diet, he will stay the color he is. If we give him the red factor seed you see at the store, his color will get more red. When you take them off the red food, their color goes back to what it was before.

OIC....now one more question...hehe! What is in the seed that makes them more red? And I am assuming that if that was fed to finches it wouldn't make them red?

Um, I don't think it would affect the color of most other finches, but I am not 100% on that. Maybe other red finches it would? I don't know.
I think the food has red chillies in it to give the red.

He's gorgeous! I love his color, and the way he has such a curious look on his face.
