I saw *my* Gouldians today!

Post by Kiko » Fri Apr 04, 2008 1:46 pm

I finally was able to visit a local breeder and I was floored by the beauty of the Gouldians. This was the first time I had really seen any, I was at a bird show last year but was overwhelmed by all the birds and could not have told you what I was looking at.

We had a good chat and he feels that even though I am a newbie, that I will be fine with Gouldians. (I sure hope so). He had some lovely Society finches too, that I could get if I change my mind. The fact that I have joined this forum and have been doing my research helped his decision!

I am smitten with Gouldians. I love the red-headed normal, and his blues were outstanding, as were the yellows. But the price tag is a bit high for this newbies budget for those incredible colours.

I believe I am going to choose a Red-head normal male, and a black head normal female as my pair, unless anyone has any suggestions?!
(He said I could get a blue female and a split normal male, in case I wanted to breed in the future, and then I would get both blues and normals! - but oo la la, the initial cost!) I have no intention of breeding really though.

Some pics from the parent cage.

Beautiful birds, and I'm excited for you. I'll bet you can hardly wait :D !

I planted some bird seed. A bird came up. Now I don't know what to feed it.

I am excited, and I am really glad my cage won't be here for another 2 weeks, so that I can calm down and get ready.
The breeder also sells reasonably priced cages, that would be great for a hospital cage, and it is really really hard not to go buy one of those cages and get my finches now!!!!
