Orlando Exotic Bird Expo--Oops I did it again!

It's an illness--that's all I can say. I'm one step away from hoarding cats. Lol

I purchased 6 new finches today, and at a bargain deal of less than $170. I drove to Orlando to see if I could find a pair of green-back twinspots. Of course I found them, but there were at least 10 people standing at the booth drooling over them. I had to act swiftly (and in the spirit of Christmas shopping at a big box store with a super sale) to snatch the best pair before I missed my chance. Yes, that meant tripping the old lady with the walker! Just kidding.

I also found a deeply discounted pair of St. Helena's and Orange-cheek waxbills ($8), and a super cheap pair of gold-breasted waxbills ($15 each).

I have to say, I LOVE these green-back twinspots! The male has the funniest song, and he does this cute little downward dog hop dance when he sings it. The song always ends with a wolf whistle. So amusing!

I have one comment about the show. The birds did not look so great this time. Many birds were molting, and I observed lots of birds in suboptimal health and even blind birds! Why would the vendors even bring these?!?!! Needless to say, everybody is in quarantine.

One last thing--can you tell I'm excited? I purchased a seed recycler. It was the last of the smaller models, and so they gave it to me for $70 instead of $150. I've been saving my used seed for the last month in the fridge because I anticipated purchasing one of these. Plus I've traveled a few times this month and my pet sitters always feed the birds at least 5-10x the amount of food I would normally use. After filtering the chaff from all the used seed, I have at least $30 worth of food or more. I think I saved money on this contraption already!

Yes, it is an illness, and there is no cure! Sounds like you had a great time at the expo and made some great purchases. Once they have settled in, we'd all love to see photos. And I agree, the Green-backed Twinspots are fabulous birds.

Yes, search for Seed Cleaner Recycler on eBay, and you will find it. Blowing off the seed hulls/chaff always annoys me and it goes everywhere. This device makes the job super easy!! It also works.

As for baking, not today. But I did find a gift of a dozen fresh eggs on my doorstep when I came home! So...baking may be in the weekly forecast.

Some people take cruises, some are avid golfers, some collect and spend $$$ on cars, cats, dogs.

Your (and most of us!) obsession is not so bad or expensive. And, the joy and happiness they bring us year-round is all worth it
Not to mention the friends we make all over the world.

Be happy! :P

Grant were the Silvers (Steve's Living World) there, they usually have a few tables set up in the center portion of the room, more to the left side as if you enter the building? They usually have a good selection?
