Hey Ya'll Im leaving the Sunshine state and moving to Virginia. Im taking my finches with me. Im gonna be traveling in a van with the cage covered. do you think they will go crazy when i remove the tarp and them being in a new enviornment? they only get to see the front of the cage anyways because i have the rest of the cage covered all the time with the tarp.i have another cage with the gouldians in it and they just laid there first egg. im suppose to be moving April 27th.

Yes, I would imagine your finches being a little nervous about the ride and the new settings. It takes about a week, in my experience, for birds to feel at home again. So what are you going to do about the new eggs?
I doubt that they would continue to incubate after/during your move. Maybe take the nestbox out for now and set it up after you're in VA?
Safe travels.

ill try that. but im not leaving till the 27th and im expecting baby zebra finches like anytime now. so before i leave they should be at least 10 days old n i am renting a van and will have all the cages covered. im just happy that where im going i can keep the birds inside where it is always warm. i hate waking up every morning fearing that i will come to a cage with a frozen bird in it. i put a lot of hard work into them.

a few years back, well lots actually, I moved and it was a two day task. at the time I had 2 pairs of budgies. one with young the other sitting. was expecting to lose the babies and the eggs. was a very pleasant surprise when I found that they had all survived. made sure there was plenty of food & water though. budgies are a very hardy bird compared to finches though so good luck with the move, hope they all survive it and you to lol

Im moving to Norfolk. And i alsohope they do fine. im sure the parents would fine i just dont know about the eggs which there are now 18 eggs and 6 hatchlings. so there are a lot of babies on the the way. Im hoping that covering the cage entirely with the tarp will help them so they dont have to see everything moving and its about a 16 hour drive including the bathroom breaks. i plan to leave early in the morning and getting there late at night.

I spend 6 winter months in Florida and 6 summer months back home in Buffalo New York. I always travel with my finches and they do just great. I travel in an SUV and put them in the back. I do cover the back and sides of the cage. Once I get where I'm going...I set them up and it's if we never moved at all. And, by the way, I lived in Virginia Beach for many years...and I love it in Virginia!
