Back from holiday

I am back from my quick holiday, and it looks like I only lost 2 firetail fledglings. There were 3 youngsters in that brood and the one fledged before I went on holiday. That one is ok, one of the two that died, was bitten on the back of the neck and the other one had no visible damage. Even if I was at home, this would have happened. This is the first time that I left my birds unattended. All the people that normally looks after my birds were also away on holiday. I really went overboard with food and water. I had 3 large seed-feeders in the one section of the aviary, with 2 large water feeders, a large water tray and a large open seedtray. In the other section, I put in another open seedtray, a large water tray and hosepipe that drips water into a water container. The overflow from that container dripped into another container. For live food, I put down a large flat tray with thousands of small mealworms in bran. The worms were mostly under the bran, but from time to time, one would pop up. When I came back, it hardly looked like any of the food were touched. I was trying to plan for any eventuality. like if rain gets into the seed-feeders, it clogs up.

Thanks, it was nerve wrecking whenever I thought of my birds at home, but it had to done. My father in-law is 85 now and my wife and kids should spent time with him before ...
