33rd and bird - birdshop

Post by moe moe2 » Tue Apr 29, 2008 10:48 pm

recently i went looking for the store only to find that they closed the store on 33rd street, but open up right over the bridge from me in the Bronx. well i've been there a few times so far they carry a lot of supplies and not so many birds.
there is 4 glass housing units with there high end finches and then a cage toward the back of the store with a bunch (yes i use that sorry word) of finches in it. there are a few zebra, a host of society and there were 3 large white javas

the second time i went i was looking at the finches and many,if not all of them, had over grown claws and beaks. this last time i was there the worker was talking to me telling me how they started with few society and now look what they have, there were around 20+ birds in there. there two nest with chicks in them, all i could think was all these birds are inbreed. i asked the worker how much were the java and he told me $79 and i made face. he went to said that's not bad compared to this bird and he went to show a bird named paco. but sad to say someone had come in the store and stolen paco right out from under them. the worker was looking for the bird in the cage so i said what color is paco and he called the other guy who was working there over to the cage and that's when they notice someone had open the cage(no locks).

they rush me out the store to check there cameras. i felt bad that they were in trouble because he told me the bird cost $2500 but i was kind of happy that one bird got way from that place. i was checking craig's list to see if anyone was selling a bird. i wanted to call back the store to see if they found anything.

i dont know what it use to be but i know what it isn't, it isn't a great place to buy birds.

What a story! It is sad they let the Finches get so inbred in hopes of making money without consideration for the birds. And then not even caring for them properly. :(

Hopefully the bird that was stolen will be better cared for.
