Updated Pics of Parrot Finch Juvies!

Post by finchmix22 » Sat Mar 01, 2014 7:19 pm

The RT an SGPF pair have successfully raised four babies to weaning! Yeah! Here are some pics of them, now they are molting into their adult feather colors. Monotwine-You got it right! There are 3 SG juvies! Only one RT...Hmmm, so dad is RT/SGPF and mom is SGPF. Now, I have to try and sex these juvies because I can't go by their color anymore.

They do look awesome!! What great little birds they are. I'm fond of the seagreen mutation too.

Beautiful Deborah, congrats! Parrot chicks are so cute! So you got four RT and a Forbes from this clutch?! This just makes me more antsy for mine to get to laying! Already have a huge nest stuffed into a tiny plastic Finch box, I swear there's enough material for several nest. Did your pair take live food or just eggfood?

They look great!!! You won't have any problems sexing the seagreen. The males are brighter orange and hens are duller. I'm sure any boys will start trilling any day. Congrats!!!

Thanks Charlie!
Chris, I don't feed live food to my finches, even the more difficult to breed species. They get eggfood, seed, veggies, and millet three times a day while raising a clutch. I try to leave them alone as much as possible, so they will feel safe to raise their babies.

Chris, You are welcome! I ask lots of questions still and I've had finches for years, but it's still a learning process.

Oh Deborah they are lovely. I really like the RT parrots but that seagreen mutation is divine. I don't know how you get anything done. I'd just sit there and watch them all day.

LOL. Colt, It is hard to get much done, but when I see them fly around in a mild panic, I leave them alone, so they can "do their thing." They all hide between the greenery and I've had several escapees when I feed because those little buggers are so small and fast that they fly right past my head into the bird room. Then, I have to chase them into the adjoining bathroom, close the door, and catch them in that smaller space. Then, I need a shower! LOL.

They are gorgeous. I just bought my first two pair of parrot finches, sea greens and red faced. They are such a beautiful inquisitive placid bird. I cant wait to have babies like yours. Good luck with them. I will be back to get tips from you when they start to breed. =D>

The babies really are skittish at first it's a wonder they don't hurt themselves when they spook and thrash around!! Thank goodness they settle down well after not too long and be sensible birds.
