Oh boy, I did it again.....

I knew I shouldn't have gone into the Pet Shop today, I just knew it!
I kept telling myself, that I was there for cat food, that I was there for a bully stick for the dogs, that I needed more spray millet......
SHOULD have stayed away from the birds. Should have known better. But that corner was like a magnet. Just had to go and have a little peek. After all, what harm could it do????
Then I was there and it was too late, too late. I saw him immediately, a tiny little pied society with a twisted foot and two tiny feathers standining on top of his head. The ugliest, cutest, most adorable little thing in the world. I did walk away, give me some credit folks, telling myself that it was probably female anyway, and that I really didn't need another society etc.
Walked right up to a cage containing a pair of two year old green singers on special for $20.00 because they were older. 20 bucks, hey I could do that, and I had never had green singers before, and they looked so gosh darn beautiful, and I had to have them. And then I knew that I couldn't leave poor little Gimpy behind, what with his crippled foot and all and the sign said that he was 25% off and I had to have him, because he was a him and he was dancing and singing for me with those two little feathers sticking straight up...

Aw, I couldn't have walked away either, and my rule is No More Birds. In fact, I just don't go into the pet store, ever. I order seed online and stuff online, because I know if I went in the same thing would happen to me.
Quick! Pictures!
By the way, you know you will only find enablers on this forum.

Haha I'm the same way. I don't have to have everything, but if it's pretty, new, or different it's probably coming home with me. Unless the price tag is outrageous.

I did the same thing!!! Went in petsmart. Told myself not to go to the bird section, but something was in the air! It said " yoooouuuhooooo". I turned and looked there as an all white society all by his lonesome . I couldn't leave him there and besides, I didn't have an all white one... Hee hee.

lovezebs, I have green singers...LOVE THEM!!! And $20 is AMAZING!!! The male will sing like crazy during breeding season, otherwise my guy just sang in the morning and at night. Right now, he literally sings at the top of his lungs starting at 5:30am until 7:30pm. Lol!!! Anyway, 2 yrs old is not old...you can probably breed those guys if they're a bonded pair. As for your crested Society... To friggen cute!!! I have a society with a clubbed foot to...Max! He's crested, neck frilled and GORGEOUS! Enjoy then all, have fun naming them and be sure to quarantine them from your existing flock too

Thanks for responses folks.
Hi Ginene. Seeing as you have some Green Singers, maybe you can tell me which is male and which is female? They were sold as a pair, but what do I know?
Do I need to know or do anything special about these guys? I want them to be as happy and healthy as can be and don't know much about them. I know I'm kind of doing it backwards, because I usually do research first, purchase later, but... What can I say, I was in the zone and couldn't control myself.
Special housing? Special food? Special anything?

Congrats on the new additions and kudos to you for taking home a handicapped one. Not many people would do that. Tomorrow, I'm going to a bird fair looking for one (and only one) thing. Need to try to find a mate for my bourke parakeet. Hopefully, that's all that will be coming back with me. Bob

Thanks Bob.
I couldn't leave little Gimpy there in the store, he was just too homely, too cute, and so brave with his twisted little foot, yet still puffing up his little belly and singing his heart out. And those two pokey feathers on his flat little head just did me in.
As to the Greens.... Well, who can resist two for twenty dollars? And they really are quite lovely . The pictures don't do them justice. I still wonder, if the price was a mistake someone made, but...
Goodluck tomorow at the bird show. I hope you find a boy for your girl. As for coming home with only one bird..... ok, will try to believe that one. Hahaha.
Maybe it's a blessing that we don't have bird shows over here. Pet Expo is bad enough and thats coming up. They usually don't have too many birds and bird stuff. What they do have however, is all the dog and cat rescues. God help me. LOL.

The hen will have a grey "necklace," where as the male will have a brighter yellow breast. If you look at my avatar, Penny is the GS is in the back with her chin up and Leonard is in the front. As far as being healthy and happy...lots of flying space, a good seed, fresh veggies and being together is all they need

. When I was prepping them for breeding, I put freeze dried meal worms in their fresh egg food but they didn't seem to eat them. I am sure they will be VERY happy with you! As for your special needs society, just make sure he can get to foods and water easily. And also a comfortable place to rest. I bought pumice ledges for my guy and chunky wood perches too. They are easy for him to fly to and land on
