Pictures of the birds...

Post by Colt » Mon Mar 24, 2014 9:34 pm

I took these the other day after their morning bath and after the egg food fairy (me) came to visit. Just thought I'd share with you all. :)

Lady Gouldains:

Some of the males are looking pretty rough with their molts. I can't wait for them to finish them up so I can get them paired up for breeding this spring.

Shaft-tails and Star finches:

The Yellow-faced male was on the nest while the hen was out and about. I still don't have a great pic of him.

And I love this one. The gouldian hen totally photo-bombed my little guys. lol

Thanks everyone. I know I'm certainly enjoying myself with them. I just hope this breeding season is a success for me.

BTW - does anyone have an opinion on the Gouldian in the 3rd and 4th picture in the middle of the perch. It was purchased as a hen, but it looks like a male to me...

It's possibly split to Blue so I was thinking of pairing it with my blue male but that'll be kind of silly if it's a male.

Seems to have a bright yellow belly & tail wires, but it doesn't have the blue ring on the head. :?

Colt,

You have beautiful birds! I only have one pair of Gouldians and they are looking pretty rough these days. Can't wait till this passes...it kinda worries me...they look like they feel bad. You are obviously doing a terrific job! Enjoy!!!

I know. I haven't heard the bird sing when all my other males have. It just has me confused. Also a lot of my hens have tail wires. I was under the impression both males and females did but makes were generally longer.

@debbie276 - What do you think?

Hard to tell in the picture but I would guess hen.
The tail wires are not long, that I can see. The belly doesn't look darker then the other hens you have with her and not as dark as the males. While her breast color does look dark it doesn't look as dark as a males to me.
That being said, if she sings, she's a he :D

best of luck with your beautiful birds

Lol Thanks Debbie. I'll hope it's a hen then and pair her up with the blue male. If indeed it is a male and just isn't singing (it's in with three males now) is there anything else I should be looking for?
