I don't know how they did it, BUT I know they did it!!!
My eyes almost fell out of my face when I saw it, but there it was.... One of my four MALE zebras ......(be still my thundering heart) "DRUMROLLLL" ...laid an egg..... !!!

How? Miracle? A he/she? Somebody explain, please.....I am in absolute SHOCK, had to sit down for a minute and breath deeply....

post a picture of your males. It is possible you've got a female you thought was male. It is possible for animals to be born of mix sex though I've never heard of it in birds.

There they are, all four. They all sing and beep and chortle their calls and so on. Any ideas?

Oh Dear. I've had people on the forum here telling me that Micky is most definitely a male and a handsome one at that. Good grief. Micky is a Meeka? Whatever shall we do? I feel like a Mom with a daughter who comes home to anounce: oh and by the way, Mom, I'm having a baby... !!!.

Yes, Micky is a Minnie. lol It is quite possible for birds to be both male and female. It is well documented in chickens. However, that's not the case here. lol

I took the EGG out of the seed dish and tossed it into a nest where the Socie boys sleep. Didn't know what to do with it. (Oh God, I'm a tosser) The zebbies don't have a nest in their new 'all male' pad. Ha!!! That's a yoke!

When I got Max and Micky from the humane society (hoarding situation) I was told, boys, 5.00 bucks each, nothing special. In fact , had to sign a paper, that I wouldn't let them breed etc. I lauged at the time... Hahaha. "I just have males." Said I. I feel like I'm breaking some law (yikes!) The bird police is going to come and get me...
Micky, has been hanging around with Teddy (who is a grey 'boy') Good grief! This does seem to explain a lot of the behavior. Don't know if there is another egg this am, afraid to look.

Oh ok. I thought those were supposed to be bigger than the regular zebbie. These two are actually a wee bit smaller than their grey brethern.

Oh, and you should have seen the faces of my three society boys when they found the EGG. They were circled around their little nest with expressions on their faces similar to the one I had on yesterday.
Then they all looked at one another kinda funny. Like, I didn't do it, did you? Wasn't me. Where did it come from? What is it? (that would be Gimpy)

Now all three are taking turns on the miracle EGG.
So far no more surprises from the four Zebbies.
