That's cute. I love it when they get surprised by something. I have a picture of one of my Socie boys looking at a fruit fly. Lets see if I can find it.

Lovezebs - funny picture! All of mine were looking like that at their carrots this morning. Carrots! They love grated carrots. But I put it on a paper plate, that they eat from, but not often, and sprinkled a few poppy seeds on it for a treat. They were terrified of their carrots on a suspicious plate - and with spots! You'd think I tried to poison them on a regular basis. I finally took it out, washed the regular dish and put it in that, and eventually they ate some of it, reluctantly, but they usually clean it out. I got the message. Tan dish. No poppy seeds.

They like fruit fly's too? Consider them ordered! I used to feed them to my bettas, but I kinda got tired of them... But hay, anything for the birds! The little pied finally decided to eat a worm, they where a bigger hit with the spice boys. I have got to get them some lady friends 8)

You may need to check the nest in a bit, if he is dropping mealies into the nesting material they will eventually go through the life cycle and change into black beetles...my Red Headed finch male did this, I thought they were eating them....about a week or so later I bumped the nest box to take a peek inside for eggs and a bunch of black beetles emerged from the bedding.
