The waiting is killing me!!

Post by nick86 » Thu May 08, 2014 8:40 am

I have 6 different clutches waiting to hatch. 4 gouldian, 1 society, and 1 owl. These are my first attempt at Gouldians and the waiting and not peeking is very hard for me :-) If my math is correct, two more days and I should have some babies!!! Very excited!!

That two weeks of incubation always seems like so much longer! I am a very impatient person, so the waiting drives me crazy!

Oh how exciting!
Fingers crossed for lots of healthy chicks!

Or maybe a few will surprise you and hatch a tad early if they've been sitting on them tightly!

That's some incredible self control if you're not peeking! LOL I'm a big peeker, but thankfully, my guys aren't bothered by it.

I've got my first (surviving) baby and I'm still in a state of anticipation even now, as I can't wait to see what he/she will look like!

Hi Nick,
Sounds very exciting and tortuous at the same time! I love to be able to peek when the parents aren't in the box AND if doing so doesn't disturb the environment ( such as a box hanging on the outside of the cage) I've found my Gouldians, parrot finches and owls to be ok about non intrusive peeks.
Hoping that you have many babies! Best of luck!

You know what I've wondered about are those little peek-at-a-bird nests that I'm seeing on TV adverts.
I think it's called the I Spy Birdhouse or similar.

It seems to be a wooden nesting box with a one-way glass panel on the back so you can see the bird, but they can't see you.

In the commercial, it attaches to windows with suction cups, but I'm sure you could drill a couple holes and rig it up with wires inside the cage.

I've wondered if that could be a good solution to birds who don't permit peeking?

It seems to be the right size for finches. And they may not like it, of course, but if you could rig it up and they like it enough to use it, it could be a clever solution.
