Glad you have been helped! That's what I love about this forum, it is a place where someone brand-new to the hobby can ask questions and not feel intimidated. We were all newbies once.

I echo your remarks,
CommaHolly!
I've learned SO much here! FinchForum has some true birdie gurus!
And it's great sharing what limited knowledge I *do* have.
Some of my knowledge was acquired the hard way, so it's always nice to help others avoid the same hassles.

I've had birds all my life, started with budgies as a kid. In fact, there has been very little time in my adult life that I have not had at least one bird. At one point I had a dozen parrots, from parrotlets to Greenwing macaws. I am a birder (bird watcher) as well, and I have my property certified as a wildlife habit....for birds. BUT, I never had any finches until last fall. I love Google, because it brought me here.

I have learned a lot since then, and it all ties in with the bird husbandry I already know, plus all the birding field experience that I've had. It makes it almost like birding in my own living room.
I never really considered finches before, because, well, they weren't "real" pets, no, not like the parrots. I didn't think they would be very satisfying. But life happens, and I had to rehome all but one of my parrots, my beloved African Grey, Beau. He ended up flying into a wall one day and experienced brain damage, had seizures and eventually died. I thought "No more birds." We went for two years birdless. My partner finally talked me into getting the linnies and senegals. But they are hers. I miss my Beau, but cannot bear to get another grey parrot. I'm still very sad about it. Then one day we went to a bird show, and I saw all these finches. So many pretty finches.
On a wild hair, I bought three pair. I admit when I first got my finches, I was thinking, oh, how hard can it be to take care of these little birds, and I got the most exotic ones I saw. I never even considered I might get babies from them, so that has been a plus. Thank you little owl finches. I feel like it's a National Geographic episode in my own house. Pretty cool. And I think it's very satisfying

Great people, great advice! I can't imagine my life without my finches and I know my finches wouldn't all be here without the advice I've gotten in the last 2 1/2 years.
