I just adopted a 1 legged zebra finch. The pet store had him in a back room. They had some other birds in the room but he was in a small cage by his self. I have him in his own cage but it is setting right next to the flight cage. I now have 9 society 2 shaft tails and this zebra. If any one has any advice please E-Mail me At

One legged birds usually adapt very well assuming he is healed from whatever injury may have led to it.

I was not sure about putting him in with the other bird but I have had him in there all day now and he seems to be ok, but he does spend more time in the bottom of the cage, than the others.

He should adapt just fine. My son keeps a pair of Zebras, and the male had a cage accident a couple years ago, just before we got him, leaving his leg mangled and useless. He still manages with his good leg and also spends more time than most on the bottom resting his good leg.

Thanks Sean
I just don't want him to be harmed in any way because of something that I do or don't do. so any advice on things I can do to make his life easer will be appreciated.

Thank God for people like you who will care for these little birds that aren't perfect.
