Location of RFPF nests

I am just interested in whether the RFP finches in Europe and in the USA has the same preverence in nest locations as the ones in South Africa. Birds in South Africa tend to be wilder because we mostly keep them in large aviaries. My RFPF's will only take a nest that faces in the direction from where I come when I walk to the aviary. Nests that faces to the side where they can't watch you approach are ignored. They also prefer nests that is about a metre from the ground.

I breed them in cages so they don't get a choice of nest locations, they have never refused to use a nest no matter where it's located but a nest as you describe placed inside facing outward towards entrance door is only location that has successfully produced parent reared chicks for me so far, when they can't see what's going on from inside nest they tend to exit nest for even the slightest reason.
