one small half broken egg...

Hi all.
This morning I found a small egg at the bottom of my Societies/Canary flight. It was partially broken with a bright yellow/orange yolk. I wonder if it was fertile (?) It looked so small and sad laying there.
My Socies don't have a nest but sleep in one of those fabric budgie tents. The egg however was on the other side of the flight, so not sure what happened there. Don't know if it was tossed, laid in mid air, or stuck to someones bum and accidently fell on that end of the cage.
This flight contains one canary, two Socie females and four Socie males. I guess somebody has been up to something under my nose behind my back. Today I noticed Gimpy, shoving little grass stalks into the community tent, so who knows.....

It could have been one that was laid while the hen was on a perch, so it just fell to the floor. No way to know if it was fertile or not at this stage. Sounds like your Societies may be getting busy!

Agreed with Sally.

You could look for blood. You'll see wisps of blood in a fertile egg in the very early stages.

Once you get around day 4-5, there's an actual embryo. They start out clear and you can only find them by taking a toothpick and gently running it through the egg yolk/whites. If it's there, it will catch the embryo.
In the first stage, they're clear, the consistency of hardened gelatin. You may see a dark spot for the eye or heart.

But as Sally mentioned, I think it's likely it got laid on a perch.
Unless you have a nest nearby?
I just found one yesterday myself that got kicked out of a nest.
