Heya all.
Here are some of my latest additions. I couldn't believe my eyes when I seen the Auroras. Not great pics but you will get the idea. I had them in a small cage to Moxi them before they went outside.

Beautiful birds!!
The Aurora's are very live food dependent aren't they? I have yet to actually see any in person. I really do like their red and grey coloring

Have never heard of Auroras before. Are they adults or youngsters in the pictures? Will have to look them up and do some reading about them.
Is that a pied red faced parrot finch? Absolutely awsome.

Heya.
Yep, they are only young birds, still have that fluffy baby look about them but each day they are looking older. They are really hard to get here, I seen them and knew I had to have them. They are related to the Melba finch.
Here is the description of them:
Adult – On cocks the head, neck and under parts are grey. With the under parts being barred with white from the lower breast to the tail. The wings are grey with a large area of crimson. The crimson is also visible on the tail .
Hens appear similar to the cocks except for the males being a browner grey. The white barring is less defined and the crimson slightly duller on the hens.
Juveniles – are similar to the females except that they appear more scruffier and the colours being duller.
Some stock pics of them.

@lovezebs Yep that is a pied Red faced Parrot finch. I have two pairs except one pied pair have a yellow throat instead of red and I also have just the normal red faces as well.
If It's pied....then I want it !!!!

Mands beautiful birds! I have only seen one Aurora finch in person. It was a pity she was alone and there are likely no others in my area

That's the problem with the birds I choose, If I lose one, it is super hard to find another one. Luckily I haven't lost many this year.
I cant wait to see my Auroras out in the aviary in the sunshine. My friend has contacts everywhere so who knows what will come next
lovezebs You do remember me saying NO MORE BIRDS NO MORE BIRDS right? I think that was when I had my first pair of Societies !! Now look at my collection and that's not counting the zebra aviary - which we just thinned out as babies are coming from everywhere.
