New Birds!
Chrismurdoch3 is visiting the area I live, and brought me 8 beautiful new birds! He will be going home later this week with 8 of mine.
They are beautiful, and all new types for me. Anyone have any experience/tips with any of these birds, I welcome any advice.
Attached are pictures of the new arrivals

Re: New Birds!
Congrats! They are all gorgeous birds!
I have a pair of fire finches and a pair of owls. Both are very easy going bird species. I have my fire finches in an African flight with other African species (cordon bleus, gold breasted waxbills and lavenders), and my owls are super laid back, and I have them in with societies. The owls used to be in with the Goulds and the parrotfinches, but I think they needed more laid back roommates and they really do well with the societies.
The fire finches do not sing. The most you'll get from the male is an occasional chirp call thing. Mine are guarding a couple of eggs at the moment, but they don't sit very tightly. This would be their first clutch, so I'm not sure they know how to do it yet. It has taken them almost a year to get this far. They would probably do better breeding in a flight of their own, but I am really not concerned as much with breeding them as I am for the pure enjoyment of having them share my living space.
The owls are just cute, and you'll love them. The calls are so sweet. My pair truly adore one another, and they are just a delight to have.
As for the others you have, I don't have any experience with those, but they look fabulous. Again, congrats and enjoy!

Sam007@David@afinch@delray
Thanks!
@KarenB
Thanks for the input. I was quite surprised at how tiny the fire finches are. You say your owls are laid back. These two are VERY busy. Flying and moving non stop. My goulds seem way more laid back than these two. They are adorable though. Don't know if I have a real pair or not.
Thanks!

Re: New Birds!
The owls will probably settle down once they get used to their new digs. When they are nervous and unsure of their surroundings, they are somewhat flighty.
Of the two you have, it looks like the first one is probably male, but it's difficult to tell with the second. I can tell mine apart more by head and bill shape than by their bars a lot of times. In my profile photo are my pair, and the male is on the left.

Oh Lori, they are lovely. I have always liked the Fire Tails, so very pretty. The Owels are just plain cute, no denying that. And are those Shaft Tails, or Parsons.... Hang on.... I thought they were the same couple, but there's two couples there. I love the colours.

Did not get Fire Tails, these are Red Billed Fire Finches. Yes you are right, two pair ofShaftTails, both a normal pair and a fawn pair.
