At trip to my hair dresser revealed a wondrous new invention (new to me anyway). After trimming my hair, my friend grabbed her broom and quickly swept the substantial pile of hair trimmings toward a black box on the floor which I had assumed was some kind of paper shredder. As the pile approached the box, it switched on all by itself and in milliseconds all the hair was sucked up into this machine. I immediately saw how helpful that could be for all the piles of floaty feathers and seed hulls that are constantly deposited around my flight cage. I have since gotten one for myself and can report that it is wonderful and makes cleaning up around the flight cage a snap!

That looks like it would help with the mess around a few cages. I've often wondered about the 'Roomba' vacuum cleaner, the one that goes around the room by itself, for those of us with a dedicated bird room. It is hard enough to keep up with the seed hulls/other mess on the floor, but the feathers are what drive me crazy. No amount of sweeping keeps up with them, as they just float away and settle down again in another spot! Would the number of 'legs' in a crowded bird room be too much of an obstacle? Anyone with experience using the Roomba?

Sally, I have a Roomba, but I don't use it in my bird room right now. I can say that it's pretty efficient at getting around my furniture in the apartment though. I use the virtual walls to keep it in the room I want to vacuum and just set it to work. It finds its way around really well and if you have taller cages with enough clearance, I think it would work fine. With that said, I would still have my doubts about getting all the feathers picked up. That feels like an impossible task!
