Out Door V In Door
My Birds are in my computer room. I love watching them and listening to them. I can't imagine them being outside. I would have to move my computer out there. I have thought about building a cage that was half inside and half outside, so they could go out if they wanted to. I live in Aiken SC so that would not work all year round, but might be nice in spring and fall.

I have to agree about having them nearby. I had all my birds in a separate birdroom. My kitchen window opens into that room, so I could open the window some and hear the singing. But once I got so many that they won't all fit in the birdroom, I now have cages in my second bedroom/computer room, and I am really enjoying them more.

I agree also. If my birds were outside, I would probably never come in the house. I have a shaftail mom and her four babies in my computer room now and it has been so much fun watching them. The rest I can see through my living room window out into my sunroom. I am always going to the screen door and checking on them It is great!

I'm getting a new cage it is 64" x 21.5" x 35" tall and it can be divided. Thats 4 times the space that they have now. Their cage now is 30 x 18 x 18. I had to take the zebras out when i got Ahab a mate. now they can see each other but be seperate.

That sounds like a nice setup. Are you able to post up pics of the new cage?

That sounds like the HQ double flight, and you will love it. You can either have it set up as two cages, or one big flight. If you do the one flight, when it comes time to clean, you just shoo everyone to one end of the cage, put in the divider, and you are free to take your time cleaning with the door wide open.
I also do not use the grate on the bottom, I just hate any extra cleaning, plus many of my waxbills spend a good bit of time on the floor, so I don't want them standing on a grate all day. If you pull out the tray, then slide the grate in where the tray goes, then slide the tray in where the grate goes, it will work. It is a tight fit, and sometimes I have to reach in and push down the corners of the tray.
It is a personal decision, the cage is meant to be used with the grate in place. I put a 4' double shop light on top of mine, really lights up the birds, plus it is good for them.

Yes, that's the cage. I got mine from www.hqbirdcages.com, and of course, the price has gone up quite a bit since shipping costs have increased. I used to have the economy cages (still do, actually), and thought those HQ cages were so expensive, but in the long run, they are made so much better, are much sturdier, look nicer, and will last longer. And if you have cages in your house, then you want them to look good in your rooms. When you assemble it, there are no directions, just a picture of the finished product, so you have to kind of guess--I had to redo things a little, but it gets done. I wish they would have at least told which bolt to use where.
When I first joined this forum, I think StevePax was the first one to get the HQ double flight, and I thought I would never pay that much for a bird cage!

I have $400.00 worth of birds why confind them to a $50.00 cage I'm thinking of getting the black one as soon as I get moved next week. I have found 4 or 5 places with prices from $199.00 to $299.99 some places have free shipping. I also like that they are on wheels so if I want I can move them from room to room.

Just shop around and compare prices with shipping included or shipping added, as shipping could be quite a lot on these cages. I love the fact that they are on wheels--I just had to deflea my house, which meant all cages had to go outside, and it was a snap. Also, with a 64" length, your birds will get a lot of exercise.

When I got my double flight from www.hqbirdcages.com, it says they are made in China, too (isn't everything these days?). It was really confusing, because I didn't want to get the copycat cage, but mine seems to be the real deal. The four used single flights that I recently picked up all look the same as the double, too--same latch, everything. Before you order one, you could always post on here and see if anyone else has ordered from the company you select, to see what their experience was like.
