Today the ICFS held their 20th annual show (i volunteered as ususal) and it was my favorite thus far! I was a steward (third year in a row) for the type canaries this year. A big beautiful border canary won overall type canary (i told the judge I thought he was the winner when the judging first began.

Anyways, I got a few new birds! Canaries! These are the first canaries I will ever be attempting to breed and I really need help.

I have three pairs of borders (from the breeder who's bird won) they are the biggest canaries I have ever seen, I love them! 5 are green, and I have one yellow cinnamon varigated hen. I also got a single fife hen, he didnt have a mate for her.

I also purchased a pair of diamond doves befor the mart/show doors opened, and after hours, and yes, hours, of bidding in a silent auction, I won a second pair of diamond doves. It was a great day!

I didn't realize i had a picture of a pair of the doves. Type canaries belong to the breeder i got mine from. You can actually see a border in there

Those doves are so lovely!
Can I ask what you spent on them?
I've always wanted a pair, but they've always been so pricey --- $175+/each. But that was in a pet shop (def. a pet shop price!) and I would much prefer a breeder.

Sure! I bought my first pair for 30, but i got a deal on them because me and the breeder have done business before and she wanted them to have a good home. The second issue i got for 26 after hours of nickel and diming in the silent auction

This was the first I've seen of them besides the over priced ones at the stores. I snatched them up as quick as possible

By the way, the border Canary pictured above is the large green one. They're huge compared to normal canaries

Oh how I envy you this bird show. It sounds wonderful.
~ Congratulations on your new feathered friends.
~ What amazes me, :D is that one of your new canaries appears to look surprisingly like a 'Zebra'. Heehee!
~As to some of these Canaries... it's amazing how many different shapes, colours and sizes they come in. The strangest one I have seen so far, is something from Belgium (can't recall the name right off hand) but it was tall and thin with a back that tilted forward in an awkward manner. It sort of looked like a broken scarecrow.

Good luck with new babies.

Dante, congratulations on your new birds. They look lovely, especially the canaries. I have 4 canaries and enjoy them tremendously. They bring so much colors and songs into my home. Hope you'll enjoy yours for many years to come :)
