I fell in love...

Post by jebediah » Sun Nov 09, 2014 9:08 pm

With crested society finches... I had stopped into petsmart to pick up a new bamboo nest and of course had to stop and look at the babies. He (I'm assuming) was singing up a storm and looked adorable with his beatles-style "hairdo". <3

I wish they got along with zebras. I never planned to expand my "flock", but I'd snag a few males up in a heart beat.

Society finches are very lovely birds due to their lovely nature! <3

I have societies (including a crested male) with zebras in my aviary. They get along fine, with each staking out a corner or nest. My societies are very sweet natured but not at all intimidated by the more noisy zebras.

I think her cage is too small though.
I have two crested socies, a male and his daughter, and they are just too precious.

I thought zebs too aggressive for society?

My cage is too small currently but I'm working on getting a double flight at the moment. :)

I have two male zebras with my societies and other birds in a 10 x 12 foot wide room and they get along, but I wouldn't trust them confined in a cage. The zebras can get very aggressive, especially around their nests.

I didn't notice the cage measurements before, cage is a bit on the narrow side.
As Dylan mentioned, Zebras can get aggressive and protective of their nests. However, from what I understand, you have two males and not nesting or breeding.
You could give it a try with two male Socies, but I would have an extra cage on the side, just in case...

Everything depends on the individual personality of the birds. Some Zebras are milder than others, some more aggressive. You know your birds best and what they're like. Adding fake greenery and creating little private hiding places and corners might help if you decide to get the Socies.

Just my opinion.

Personally, from my experience, I wouldn't try it in such a small cage.
It will most likely cause problems. Let your Zebra's have their peace and space. The new flight cage sounds great and there will surely be more finches to choose from in your future ;)

I wouldn't get any societies anyways until after I get my double flight so there's no worries about too small a cage. We shall see. I should be good and just keep to my zebs. :)
