Blessed to see a Swee :)

Post by Rox » Sun Mar 08, 2015 1:17 pm

These two are starting to visit more regularly and we are feeling incredibly blessed to have them in the garden. Such beautiful little waxbills :D

Fantatic Rox, you are so lucky to have them in your own garden. And you are pretty handy with the camera too. I wonder how many times have you seen them and didn't have your camera on hand. I have only seen them in Petshops, but people tell me there are lots in Bainskloof.

Oh, you are so lucky! You get to see the kind that have black faces, which we never see imported here! Those are gorgeous!

I haven't seen any swees (even imported) in my area in years - lucky you to have them in your garden! They are such sweet little things!

finchandlovebird Dolly, I bought that feeder from a local nursery. I loved the beaded look to it! It's a pretty simple design if you have the tools available to make it :D

Thanks for the comments everyone! I really do hope they hang around. For all I know, they might have been around for ages but just not coming down to the feeder. They are incredibly shy. I had to use stealth mode to sneak inside, get the camera and tiptoe back outside again to take this photo, lol!

Rox Rox, I would be soooo tempted to put out a few nests for them. Small wicker ones, hidden away, but with something above to keep the rain off. Remember when Christo posted those pictures of those "Jan Groentjes" sunbirds that bred in his backyard.

MariusStegmann You know, I have also thought about that. I have a couple of wicker baskets lying around that would be perfect. I just need to construct a roof for them...

Hmmm, a great weekend project to look into :D
