It hardly even resembles the mother or the father...

"Ma, why am I so little?"
"Oh never mind that, one day you'll be a big and strong dove, if you eat ALL of your vegetables. Now go to sleep, dear, get some rest."
Ha this is our little society juvie, Lucky, the one who our Javas fostered. At maturity Lucky's foste sibling, a zebra finch named Thistle, integrated with his own kind and left poor Lucky behind. But Lucky has found a new buddy - two, in fact - in the form of Dudley and Neil the diamond doves. He's been siding up to them for a few days but tonight actually hopped into their nest under Dudley's feathers and went to bed right there! Dudley was so sweet about it just started to preen him! Oh my gosh cute.
This poor baby has had SUCH a hard road. He hatched in the zebra pair's nest by accident and was attacked at birth, losing part of one wing, and though the Java finches adopted him, the male plucked him bald at fledging, and then the one bond he had in life, his foster sibling, abandoned him right as his foster parents kicked him out! I'm so happy he finally found someone (or two someones) to love him, however odd the arrangement!
