I have a strange problem. The fresh food and egg food I am offering my finches is attracting ants. A lot of ants. Does anyone have ideas on how to deal with ants in the aviary that won't pose a risk to my birds? Thanks.

Re: Busy Little Ants
Avian Insect Liquidator or AIL is an amazing product that is safe enough to mist nests with newborn hatchlings. I too am having an ant problem, and am getting ready to use this again in the birdroom. I wouldn't intentionally spray their food and water, but the instructions say it is safe if it comes into contact with it. I'd pull the food and water and then just mist the cage (including the feet of the stand it sits on) and return the food and water. That should do the trick.

I use these and the liquid at the entry point in the house where ants are coming in... DO NOT use this inside the aviary or in cages. Place it next to or on their trail line, it works well, and usually within a day or so they are gone

Re: Busy Little Ants
Thank you Colt. I will try some of the Avian Insect Liquidator indoors and Cindy I will try the Terro out doors. My ants are coming in from outside between the floor and the wall in my bird room. Thankfully I am dealing with sugar ants and not fire ants.

I use this http://www.food.com/recipe/get-rid-of-a ... nts-203233 all around my house. (Though not in the aviary.) It works really well. I update them a few times a year and keep the ants away completely.

Amanda, thanks for sharing the link. It's an easy recipe to concoct. I'm going to give it a try.
