Kelly

I picked some from books, and some just come to me, when I look at the individual bird.

I like unusual names, that have a meaning, for the birds looks or personality.

I go for descriptive names. Like Firstson was the very first RFPF bred by me. Monhen is a hen that was bred by someone whose name starts with Mon and the hen is self explanatory. Other romantic names that I pick is like bluecock and greencock = both cocks ringed with respective a blue and a green ring. To be quite frank, the only reason I name birds is because Finchbreeders database where I enter all my bird's data requires it. On rare occasions, I give birds a real name, like Selkie, a cock who drowned his hen in the waterbowl and a very pretty cockbird "My Precious" = Lord of the Rings, because I would hate to loose this bird. When I think of a particular bird, the name does not appear in my mind, but rather a picture of the bird.

Kelly

My boys and I LOVE Harry Potter, so we named them all after different characters. I think we're going with greek gods and goddesses next. I'm a librarian, so I tend to pick characters from my favorite books too :D

usually my birds get descriptive names. The canaries and doves are named according to their color. Sunday got her name because she was the only chick hatched that clutch and it was Sunday, so that was her "baby" name, but it stuck. I name the babies theme names, like the "p" clutch because that year had a purple band, so I had petunia, because it started with a P and the birds band number was 82, so "2" and "tu". And there was poppy, because it fit with the name and she was the most flight " poppin" bird and the rest. Primrose, because she was small, prim and calm. The other two were also p flowers, but I can't remember. When I kept Blaze, she got a grown up name, I think she was Pansy, because it rhymes with 3 and she was band 83.

The linnies are so cute they look like cartoons, so I gave them cartoon names, Stitch and Pikachu. The boy babies I kept: Thor was the biggest baby and he has a stormy greenish blue color and my kids are really into Avengers, and what girl isn't into Thor : :D : so he got his name. And his green brother got the name Loki.

I don't like "human" names for my animals, so I wouldn't name them those because I get my kids and husband's names all crossed together enough as it is :)
