Thought this might be fun. What is your favourite type of finch? Doesn't have to be a species you own.
Ready set go!

Blue!!!!!!!! That is a favorite BIRD

No one is surprised. When I get my aviary built and my wishlist knocked out I can give a less biased answer. I do want many more CB's , some orange cheeks, Lady Gouldian's who look enormous by comparison and I am hoping to get some crested socies from the socies I have. Meeper's my little zebra hen is so sweet may get her a cute crested zebra mate. How can we pick a favorite?

Having a hard time choosing between the Society Finches and the Gouldians.

Lady Gouldians are the Difficult Sudoku Level of the finch breeding world, LOL!
My hat's off to anyone who can follow all that.

I think zebs have big personalities for such a small bird!

19 species and no favorites. Love to observe my birds at lunch time from a vantage point where I can see many nest boxes and baskets, swings, treat trays with veggies, seed feeders and a tree full of fresh spray millet. With at least 10 species in sight at any one time, every day I learn something new about their interaction with each other....so fun!
I actually have a pair of close up binoculars designed for butterfly observers that can focus as close as 18" away. The close up feather detail on all my birds is simply stunning.

I'd love to get a pair of those binoculars, what brand are they?
I'd have a hard time picking a favorite too, as each species has its own separate style and personality, but I think my Purple Grenadiers might top the list. They have a lovely song (both male and female sing too), they are strikingly beautiful, and they are not quite as flighty as many other waxbills.

This is the type of binoculars I'm using for extremely close viewing:
Pentax 8.5x21mm Papilio Butterfly Binoculars 1.6ft CLOSE ...
Their website says they're no longer being manufactured but you can still get them at Amazon or EBay for under $140. There might be a newer model but these work just fine for me.
The clarity is so good, I can actually read the band numbers from a distance. Important when you're trying to identify young singing males in an open flight that all look pretty much the same.

Hey, I hadn't thought of that! I should break out my outside-bird binoculars and try them on the inside-birds. They will focus down to about 3' to 6' I think. Should be good for spying on them from across the room.
