Just a story for the Finch Loversss

Post by lnlovesorange » Tue Mar 15, 2016 10:43 am

So I get home last night, peak in the bird room (went a little early on the lights last night because like a dummy I left a light on the night before and they were up yesterday morning BEFORE the crack of dawn....) So, I was right, they were super tired and ready for bed, I took a peak in all seemed quiet and well, I shut the light out. I heard a noise, looked didnt' see anything I'm upstairs in my room talking to my mom, I hear a noise again, I check the bird room, nothing I check the hallway outside the bird room nothing... So I go downstairs to snack, relax in front of the tube, you know the usual... So I'm sitting in the living room about a half hour later, and all the sudden out of nowhere I hear this "Meeep" (for all you Zeb lovers, you know what that noise is) And there is my little Charlotte, sitting on the floor in the living room!!!! I go "CHARLOTTE?!..... What are you doing down here? I have no idea how she got out, how she found her way out, or m ore so, how she found her way down the stairs in the dark!!! I'm assuming she just followed the light and the noise... and the wierdest part? It was almost like she let me catch her... Anyone who's ever tried to catch a Zeb in a large room with all the lights on knows... it's not an easy task... but she kept landing in Low places... Like on the couch, or a low lamp.... Like she coouldn't just give in and let me catch her, but almost like she wanted to be caught... I caught her bare handed with the lights on... and gently carried her back to the bird room... So she could tell her family all about her adventures down to the living room rug.... Crazy Birds.... LOL

Glad that all ended well, and that wee Charlotte , allowed herself to be caught without too much trouble.

I find, that Canaries, are the easiest to pick up, with Societies and Zebras, being second. Gouldians, never seem to make a run for it. Waxbills however, are a nightmare to catch....

These tiny imps are such good flyers, and so so fast and agile in the air, that it's almost impossible to keep up with them. They are also amazing at pulling a disappearance act.

I don't know how many times I'd gone into panic mode, screaming at family members, hopping up and down on chairs, hurlting over bewildered dogs, tossing poor sleepy cats into bathrooms , crawling on all fours like a crazed crab on the floor to check under furniture, moving the fridge, pulling out the stove, shaking out curtains, having a nervous breakdown....... only to later find the tiny devils perching peacefully on my ficus tree, swaying gently in the breeze, gazing dreamily out the window at the falling rain.......

Now, if I can't catch them immediately, I take a deep breath and sit down quietly (net at hand). It's amazing how quickly you will notice a tiny bird winging it's way towards a flight cage where it's friends and family members reside. Then ever so quietly and nonchalantly you wield your long handled net, and there's your bird :D.

Charlotte had quite the tale to tell her roommates after her adventure! I have cats and a dog, so like Elena, a loose bird is time to round up the other animals first, then try to catch the bird.
3 Purple Grenadiers, 1 Goldbreast + 1 cat.

Luckily the only other animal i have is Marshall the Parotlet, (i wouldn' let him near her either, althought when I caught her he was right there on the other shoulder wondering who this other bird i was holding was... LOL. But luckily I don't have any other animals... Or she would have been a goner I think.... I've been franitc like that Elana... no animals, but I've been brought to tears once trying to find Charlotte (the night her mass fell off and there was blood everywhere, ugh, BAD night) and once or thrice looking for Marshall.... It's NOT a good feeling. Yeah, I've tried catching Charlotte before and she's not easy to catch.... That's why I was wondering if maybe she wanted to get caught ... ya know? That's the thing the bird room is up stairs.... so she probably couldn't find her friends!!! She needed me to bring her to them, or i think she would have crawled back on her own. Anyway, like you said it all ended nice... glad she spoke up too, or she may have slept down there on the florr!!!
