Female Gouldian finch escaped from the cage.

Post by StodOne » Sat Sep 03, 2016 1:43 pm

While I was off somewhere I had someone else check on my birds and replace their water if it needed to be done , eventually they escaped , I only found out about it when I got home , she escaped estimated 2 hours before I found out , then i started searching for her but to no avail its been aproximately 4 hours since she is outside and I am not sure how to find her , I've searched every where in the neighborhood , I assumed that she couldn't go that far , as when she escaped from my cage before she landed on the ground , and couldnt really fly for too long , can anyone tell me how do i catch him and find her if there is anyone that had a succesful save or something , please all help is welcome and I didnt know on what thread to really post this on , if anyone can help me , please do thank you.

I am not sure where she would hide outside , wether it would be somewhere lower or somewhere higher , I know that indoors , finches tend to get on top of shelfs and what not , but i am not sure if she is a caged bird , maybe she cant reach another tree and maybe i should search for her on the ground ..
I am afraid of cats if there are any , I just need help
There is an apricot tree in front of my balcony , where she probably escaped , I believe that she is somewhere close like that , maybe she is in front of me and I cant see her because of her turquoise green back is blending in with the surroundings , plus there is I am not sure what type of tree but it has purple flowers the same color as her chest , also there are some yellow leaves starting to show on the tree , it is a mess she has all the colors of the surroundings.
I tried to hear her , and I thought i heard her a few times but vaguely and not sure if it was her at all.
The male called for her even when the dark came and I am so frustrated right now :(

Oh no....
The only thing I could recommend, is placing a small cage with food and water inside, somewhere close to where her mate is. Leave the door to the cage open, and hope for the best.

Good luck.

lovezebs Thanks I will do that , I've placed a lot of seeds and a water cup on the table , crushed egg shell(I know she loves that) and hard boiled egg ,
Should I move all those inside of the cage or put some food inside of the cage too and leave the food that is outside be?

There is also doves nest with chicks in it on one tree next to my balcony , i wonder if I should even consider that she is in that tree because she might be afraid of the dove chicks ?

I'd definitely use a cage with food I side, if you want to catch her...

So I should remove the food I placed outside of the cage , and let only inside food be available?
I am afraid she wont see it :/
Anyways I will do what you said , your help is much obliged.

I am not sure if I heard her chirp today but i heard the male chirp 3 whistles (gentle sounded) and then quickly heard 3 more whistles that sounded a bit deeper , not sure if it was the female who made those sounds or the male gouldian but the female has less gentle chirp then the male so i am not sure if it was her or not , i will wake up early in the morning and i will look at the cage that i set up im not sure how i am going to close it once she gets in but i feel confident , also there are a lot of sparrows here i hope they wont interfere , keeping my fingers crossed
