I've posted a few times, and my signature says 'St Croix Falls, Wisconsin, USA'. That's not correct now, as I retired on July 4th and we moved to Kentucky. Now we live in the very center of a very beautiful state.

I'm a plant person, and moving from zone 3 to zone 6 is a big change! Still trying to learn the plant species that grow here.

My birds traveled in the back seat of the car, in a cage 4' long so it just fit. We listened to tweets and twittering for 850 miles. I drove straight through, the whole distance, because I couldn't figure out how to deal with the birds if we stopped at a motel for the night.

For a while the birds lived, free flying, in a small barn. They thought high rafters were awesome! Eventually I penned off one end, and put a top on the pen. It is 8' tall x 16' wide x 8' deep. There's still a lot of work to do out there, including re-building the individual cages for the male Canaries. Right now there isn't much squabbling, as the space is so large they can easily pick their own spot.

I really enjoy this forum, and learn something every time I visit the site. Thanks!

Sound great Dave, 850 mile....that's one hell of a drive, that is virtually the entire length of England,

How long did that take you to drive that kinda distance, must surely of taken about 10 hrs or more

Well congratulations on your retirement,sounds like your birds are glad you retired too with there new spacious home,Enjoy your new home.

Sounds very cool, take some photos of their new aviary! We have an 8 x 8 outdoor aviary and it's quite large, with double that I don't imagine you'd have to worry about separating your canaries. They should be able to work out their territories in that much space.

Serious drive in one go well done

Congrats on the retirement and the move to a bit warmer climate. Kentucky is a beautiful state. That is a great amount of space for your birds, they should enjoy that. I'll bet they liked those rafters! lol

That is a long drive for one day! A friend and I will be driving from Texas to the National Bird Show outside of Chicago later on, it is about 950 miles, but we will break it into two days. Our birds will go inside the motel at night, we take sheets along and lay them on the floor, then put the cages in the middle of the sheets. In the morning, we just shake out the sheets outside and so have little mess in the room. Then we leave a tip in the room in case we did miss any seed.
