Looking at some bird videos, I came across this Bird Mart in Holand.

There are several videos about it, but here's one anyway. I think they would have to drag me out of there screaming, lol, and toss me out the door....

lovezebs - Elana, I just checked on the dates for the Zwolle bird mart for 2017 and the next one is next Saturday (2/18)! Too bad we can't go, don't you think? The second one for this year is on 9/23 - and I am happy I won't be in Germany anymore at this time. Otherwise I would want to go, spend the whole day daydreaming what it would be like if I could buy whatever my little heart desires. And then have to leave empty handed.

We have our Bird Club here, and we usually have a Feather Fest in the Summer. It's nice, but it's nothing lik that Dutch thing....

Babs - As a teenager I was lucky to see a Hoopoe Hoop out in the wild in Austria when we were there on vacation. I remember my parents talking about them being 'smelly' birds. It turned out they are able to eject a stinky substance (especially the females and nestlings) which makes the nesting site and the area around it very smelly. It can also be expelled in stressful situations or in case of danger. Their diet is mostly composed of insects, also some small reptiles and frogs.

I have never seen one, and most certainly had no idea that they were 'stinky' birds.... well that's one crossed off my list .


Did you see the crowds in there, and the crowds waiting to get in on the next video? The Dutch, are SERIOUS bird people.
