Aviary Extension
Hi All
A guy in my Finch Club is adding 3 extensions to his home. The first extension is done and it has quite a number of large aviaries in it. I am green with envy.

I can only wish...
They look lovely, though I would put in more perches and hiding possibilities.

Re: Aviary Extension
Wow a serious aviculturist to add that onto his home.
I would only worry about making the birds "soft" as they are in a very protected area. Offspring bred in those aviaries would die with me as they would be shell shocked by the sudden environmental changes that happen outside.
But still not to deter from what is a lovely home for finches. They will thrive in there.

My mouth fell open! This looks like a dream come true, to me!
2 black cheek zebras and 5 CFW zebras, one A&M pied coturnix hen, my darling cream/lavender coturnix roo, and his attitude.

Re: Aviary Extension
monotwine I agree with you, the birds would go "soft" indoors. Besides, South Africa doesn't really have the climate to necessitate such indoor aviaries. He still has 5 aviaries outdoors, with 12 aviaries indoors. Once he finishes the other 2 extensions, he will probably have another 24 aviaries indoors. If it was mine, I won' t really know what to do with all the aviaries.

Hi Marius....
I am green right along with you...
That is absolutely beyond wonderful
How much would it cost to have something like this built, or does he do the work himself?
By the way, I would have no problem knowing what to do with all of these, lol.

Re: Aviary Extension
lovezebs It sounds like he is doing it himself. I have no idea what it would cost. At least R500 000 for the 3 extensions. I like it that he put in a half circle bowls. You push against it on the outside and the bowl turns around to the outside. You put your softfood in and you swivel the bowl back to the inside. That way, you don't have to go into the aviaries when you give softfood.

Wow, that's a whole lot of money! and a whole lot of work!!!
I must say though, that it is quite beautiful.
The only thing I would change, is adding outdoor aviaries to each one, so that the birds could enjoy the great outdoors in good weather.
In the pictures, I can't really see the bowls you describe.
What sort of birds does he keep?

lovezebs Have a look at the 2nd last photo, next to the door is a black horizontal rectangular shape. That is it. On the 2nd photo, it is in the middle of the photo.
