Blue breasted gouldian

Hi Guys and Girls
Yesterday was a particular dark day for me, my first blue gouldian chick died. Luckily I have 3 more nests of gouldian chicks to make me feel better. What do you think of this blue breasted gouldian cock?
It doesn't do it for me. In my opinion, the best features of the gouldian is negated in this bird. The colours are muted and not vivid bright colours like you would expect in a gouldian.

I tried to look for other examples of this mutation and couldn't find anything. The yellow tummy and green back look dull. The blue chest looks more like indigo, which is another form of purple. I guess some can see it as blue.
Sorry you lost your blue chick, Marius.

Let us know how the other pairs progress. What other colors are breeding?

Sorry about your baby, Marius....
Do you know what happened to him?
Regarding this Blue breasted bird.
Doesn't do anything for me either. I think people just get all excited about creating a new mutation, and forget to actually look at it and question themselves, as to whether this is actually attractive or not.
The first time people see a Gouldian, in all of it's glorious colours, they go WOW!!!
Would they go wow upon seeing this bird? I think not.

It is pretty, but I do agree...the regular gouldian is so very WOW! First time I saw one, I was sure it was hand painted.

lovezebs I rather not talk about it Elana, which more or less means that I am responsible. I saw that the chicks were very cold and about to die. I warmed them up, fed them and wanted to put them under a pair of Bengalese, But decided to put them on a reptile heating pad inside some paper towels for a few minutes. A client phoned and I got involved with the conversation, and forgot about the chicks. After the call, I checked the chicks and saw that the thermometer malfunctioned because the chicks died. The temp was quite hot.

Babs I have a pair of splits on eggs and chicks, I can't really see what they are, because the nest is very high, the nest material is also in the way. I have another nest with about 3 yellow chicks and 2 normals. Then I have another normal pair that have not yet started incubating their eggs. Then then sibling of the blue that died. This chick was not bad off like the others. It could still beg for food. The others chicks's legs were almost straight and stiff and they could not beg. That one, I didn't have to revive and I put it under the bengales immediately and it is doing ok.

This doesn't look like a mutant to me, but environmental melanism.

Sheather I don't think that bird is melanistic. This one on the photo below is suffering from being melanistic.

Not sure if the original bird is melanistic or not.
I have come across some pictures, of some Gouldians who do have a more blue breast, rather then purple.
That said, there are some jack asses out there who are selling "melanistic" Gouldians, who look absolutely terrible, and appear to live in bad conditions.
Check it out...

I don't know what it is, but the word 'foul' describes it very well.
The absolute filth that poor bird is surviving in, is unthinkable, and it would appear from the looks of things, that it lives in the dark as well .
