WooHooo A place where we can exchange day to day happenings about our feathered friends. Thank you Finch forum!

I'll start it by saying that I now have five new fledgling Zebra Finches out and flying about, as of two days ago.

Yes, it was great news. Even though we knew that the trauma we went through with the last batch was a fluke, it was still nice to see all of those new little beaks flopping around the cage learning to fly, lol. It looks to be 3 females and 2 males.

I have not had any Zebra Babies since August. Maybe someday I will have some more of them. My silver (m)and fawn(f) pair are sitting good and I hope they will be hatching soon. And my CFW's are sitting now too. Not sure about the others, they are not real consistant sitters. If they do not hatch the eggs they are sitting on then I will pull the nests again for a while. And just let them hang out for a while and rest.

I do but not a very good one. My silver male and his current hen. I think she is fawn, but I cannot get a good close look, I know she is not silver, or normal gray. these two are very shy, so I try to leave them alone alot.

It is hard to take pics of finches isn't it ?

I do see the wing lacing on your Silver male . Makes me think I do have a silver hen and split for silver cock :D
Cann't wait for chicks ( hopefully just a few more days )
Thanks for sharing .

Ah well. Some bad news. One of the fledglings found dead yesterday evening in the food dish on the bottom of the cage. Not a mark on it, eating actively, no feathers missing, beak or head damage, etc..The other four are live and well and flying about. These Zebras really seem to be awful flyers at first, their landings are more of a crash and walk away type affair. It's the only reason I can have to account for this little ones passing. I know I've said it before, but it really does amaze me how fragile these birds seem to be. I am more used to the smaller hook bills, parakeets, cockatiel, lovebird. Which are much more robust in frame.

Thank you my friends. So far all of the others seem to be just fine. We're probably going to allow one more breeding, then stop until the aviary is set up. I think it should be ready by the time these new little ones are old enough to move.
