Calgary Finch Lovers Beware

Hello to all Calgary and area Finch Lovers...

Lately, there have been several ads on kijiji involving Parrot Finches, check below.

One ad has to do with two females (who appear to be hybrids between the Red faced Parrot Finch, and the Blue faced Parrot Finch).

Another involves an ad from Red Deer, of people wanting to sell a 'breeding pair' of a Red faced hen, and a Blue faced cock (Parrot Finches).

The Red faced PF, and the Blue faced PF, are two different species and should not be bred together. Apparantly the hybrid offspring can be fertile, and can seriously damage the pure blood lines in our area.

If you do decide to buy them , please be aware that they are hybrids and should not be bred.

The hybrids are interesting. Apparently the blue and red, when present both in a single bird, occur over a random distribution.'
Would have been neat if the colors overlaid each other, and produced a purple-faced parrot finch.

It's just that I've heard some stories about Freddy boy, and not good ones.
I know he breeds his birds until they can breed no more, then sells them as young breeding pairs. He apparently lies to people to get good write ups from them, then doesn't keep his promises, taking advantage of his customers. He really doesn't care about his birds or the people he sells them to.

I don't like the way he does business, and I shall most definitely let the word spread about him mixing up species and selling hybrids.

I don't hold this against the birds by any means.
They are pretty, but they can become Typhoid Marys in the overall genetics of Parrot Finches in this area, which is simply wrong.

I agree it's not a good idea with the birds that are rare in the pet trade, like the parrot finches, but i always have a curiosity whenever it comes to hybrids. I do find them very interesting.
