They are adorable....
Are you sure the wee one wasn't just begging for a snack???
Your girl above is a lovely young lady. Too bad we can't get her together with my boy Darkwing... They would make pretty babies together.

He's very nice. That clean white base tone on the underside contrasts well with his darker face and crop.
My ideal society finch would be one with the coloring and marking of a European red-brown or chocolate self and the conformation, size, and temperament of an American. Unfortunately, they don't seem to exist (or if they do, I haven't seen them).

I imagine there is, but it would likely be costly and take quite a while. I can't remember how long imported animals have to be quarantined in the US, but it's probably 1-2 months. I've never shipped before, so I don't know much about the procedures.

Now the chocolate one is also starting to act afraid; I guess fear develops near fledging.

I removed the old eggs today; two were infertile, and one looked DIS. The nestlings should fledge in less than a week.

Even if they are supplemented with hand feedings, when they reach a certain stage, they start backing away from you.
Babies who are handraised, will stay tame longer, but once introduced to the flock will rarely retain any tame behaviors (although some strangely enough do).
They look beautiful.

I figured none would stay tame, though I find it interesting that they aren't afraid from the start. Perhaps it's just because they have no reason for fear until they are strong enough to get away from a potential predator.

Of the 3 species I own, there is still nothing cuter and more innocent than a society babe.
I've noticed they get afraid when their parents start that warning call "chip chip CHIP!"
I had a female years ago I re homed because she would go into a FIT of "chips" everytime we went near the cage.
The kids were so afraid they fledged late, and she piled them into the clown car everytime anyone stepped into the room after that. Very flighty kids.
Your kids are going to be beautiful!

Macbeth is a bit high-strung, and occasionally starts chipping when I'm not even in the room. The previous brood was also flighty, but that may have been because I was on vacation when they fledged.
I especially like this one:

They keep peeking out, but still haven't fledged. Prisma has started sleeping in the nest with the others, leaving her mate, Laser, to roost alone.
