Single Zebra Finch

I bought a young pair of Zebra Finches a few weeks ago and the hen died a couple of days ago leaving me with only one finch. The bird store is a hour away and I have to get rides from family because my car is not running so it could be a while before I can make it down there. I was reading that finches can die from being alone so I am worried about my little guy. I guess I just need reassurance that he will be fine for a month or so until I can get to the bird store also what can I do to keep him happy until then. I have been spending a lot of time reading to him which he seems to like and am going to start working on taming him. I have also been playing finch sounds but I am wondering if that could stress him out.

He won't die of loneliness. He'll be fine. Even if it takes a lot longer than a month to get him a companion, he'll be fine.
They're always better off if they can pair up with a buddy but a lone finch isn't going to pine away from loneliness. He or she will just be happier and more active when a friend finally does appear, LOL!

You have yourself to worry about as well. And it seems both of you together are excellent company.

Keep reading to him. ;)

A lone finch, will not die from loneliness, but being an extremely Social creature, he will most definitely miss the company of others of his own kind. He will crave social interactions, especially when he has had a mate before.
I would offer him a mirror, and spend as much time with him as you can. Reading is a great idea, also singing, whistelling, playing music, etc.

Thanks everyone, that had me worried. He seems to be getting back to normal. He is flying and hopping around while singing/cheeping like crazy.
