How i made my wooden stack cages
Hey all.
these is how im making my wooden cages.
im still in the process and thought sharing would help inspire someone else.
These will be 42inch x 15inch x 15inch each and the whole thing is 63inch hight.
they will have a divider in the middle and each cage will have 4doors and 8small food cup doors in the fron. One of the sides will have 2 doors, one for breeding boxes and a door.
Only the front and the left side will be with wires. The back and right side will be closed with mdf.
How i started is by ripping the wood with the table saw. the individual pieces are 1/2inch x 1/2ich and the side and back bottoms are 1 1/2ich x 1/2inch.
i used my drill press for drilling the whole pieces and i'll be using electric fencing wire.
Its a long process i know but i like making stuff and being a hobbies that gives me more motion.
here is where im at right now.
everything is put together using glue and nails.
i drilled the pieces together then used nails to hold it BUT i got sick of it pretty soon so i went and bought a pin nailer. Best decision for this project. It doesnt need too much support on individual pieces because the whole thing is going to support itself together pretty good.
I have done these cages in the past and when the whole thing comes together is pretty strong.
Im thinking of painting the whole thing yellow or blue.
This cage is going to be hopefully a breeder for my gouldians, canaries and goldfinches.

Yep, pretty big Sally.
Of all the process, drilling the holes was a pita
82 holes in 17 pieces of 42inch and
26 holes in 13 pieces of 15inch
What a back pain the next day
Will keep updating as I go for sure

Maybe I do, but I wish I could build things that people wouldn't look at and comment... oh how sweet, did your kids build that when they were in kindergarten?

Re: How i made my wooden stack cages
Well found some time this weekend to do some work on the cage. Now I'm done with the bottoms and all support pieces. Cut them and glued/nailed them to place. Everything looks fine. Next will start installing the back and side sheets and will start putting wires and making the trays for each cage.
my leds are in the mail for this cage. Will post more pics as I go
The competed pic is upside down because the glue isn't dry yet that's why I have some heavy weights on top of the wood sheet
