Hello everyone. It's me Nick again. I have a somewhat funny question. I was wondering if you could transport zebra finches in a cat carrier untill I got them home? If not then what do I transport them in after I get them? My friend doesn't want hers and can no longer care for her zebras so she giving just the birds to me.

It should work if you install a perch and put 1/2" screen over the holes so the birds can't stick their heads out.

How long will they have to stay in? For short trips, a cardboard box with air holes and a padded floor should be enough. Add seed and water dishes if they will be there for more than a couple of hours.

A smallish cardboard box, with a bunch of holes punched into it for breathing.

Alright everyone. Another quick question I need answered to calm my nerves. How can you expect an egg to hatch when you don't know when it was layed? I'm thinking of slightly disrupting the nest and removing the remain eggs to give to my other zebra finch but I want to know if they have a chance of survival if I don't know when they were layed? I want more babies but I'm afraid the parents will toss them. Please help.

Hi Nick,

If the eggs haven't hatched, they might be duds. You could try and candle them to see if there is anyone inside.
