New society finch

I had two society brothers and one died, so I went to the Pomona Bird Mart today to get him a new friend. The chocolates caught my eye, and I bought one. I put him in a quarantine cage downstairs, and the two societies calling back and forth. He is the picture of health and from a totally reputable breeder, so I put them together. Bad, I know, but after seeing all her healthy birds in their immaculate cages I don't feel this is much of a risk. And this is one of the things I love about societies - my society boy was positively overjoyed to see him. His only company for the last two weeks has been a canary. He started courting him immediately and trying to feed him. I sure hope the breeder is right and this really is a male.

Congratulations Ann,

The chocolate selfs are gorgeous in my opinion.
I'm glad your other little Socie is happy with the new companion.

As to gender, if they both sing and do the poofy dance, then both are boys, if one starts laying eggs, then well.... what can I say ?

Do you happen to have a good picture of your Canary by the way? He looks absolutely adorable from what I can see.

Her name is Spike, and I got her at the show last year. She has an adorable personality, and during this time of year (has something to do with hormones) she sings like a male canary.

Oh my goodness, she is absolutely adorable!

Now that's one irresistable Canary I wouldn't be able to resist if I saw it anywhere. I love her.

Thanks for sharing her with us Ann.

Amazing looking canary I love that top hair do always wanted one. Any bird with a hair do like that haha

And in regards to your society if he sings he’s a boy they usually sing within the first day normally minutes

And he’s a nice finch I’ve been looking for one :( for ages

I've been watching and waiting for him to sing, and so far nothing. I thought it was odd when my male tried to feed it - he would do his little dance for his brother all the time, but never tried to feed him. I'm starting to think this might be a female.
