Well in my finch addicted state I put an ad up on craigslist about a week ago saying "Wanted. Looking to adopt any unwanted finches." Well earlier today I got a response to that post. This woman rescued 10 zebra finches from someone who had them in a decent size cage. well as of today she had adopted out 6 of them leaving 1 female and 3 males in the big cage. However the reason she cannot keep them is because she found out that she is allergic to zebra finches. So as of tomorrow I will be having 4 new finches and 1 nice big cage for free (trying to convince her to trade cage for cage).

I have never heard of anyone being allergic to Zebra Finches, lol. You're either allergic to feathers, or the dust that comes off feathers, but not allergic to a specific species of bird .

Well, Elana it turns out she found someone else who was willing to pay her money for them. Trying to convince her to just give me the female for some money.

FinchLover&Breeder Craigslist doesn't allow pets to be sold, only rehomed. Most people will post a "rehoming fee", but some do say they will give them away just to get around this rule. However, it sounds like this woman just reneged on giving them to you after someone offered cash--not nice.

not true. I have a friend who breeds finches, is fine, bought a pair of Electus parrots and is very allergic to them. Has to rehome.

Hi Lori and Nick,

I have done some follow up reading on bird allergies, and this is what I found....

All birds create dust off their feathers, but apparently the Parrot familly (and pigeons as well) creates more dust than others, causing higher incidents of allergies.
