A Nice Free Gift

Post by lovezebs » Thu Nov 30, 2017 8:49 pm

Hello Everyone,

The other day, I saw an ad on kijiji for a free Zebra Finch boy to a good home.

Now normally I would just ignore this (I have enough Zebras), but there was something about the pictures of this little boy that just caught my attention, so I decided to go and see him.

Sometime later I returned home with little Koko and a very nice free cage as well.

The owner, is returning home to Europe in a week's time, and really wanted to find a good home for little Koko, which he'd bought for his kids approximately a year and a half ago.

Koko is a 'tiny' normal Zebra Finch male, and has lived as an only bird most of his life. He is also hand tamed, which I find quite adorable.

Here are some pictures, which sadly came out blurred for whatever the reason....

That's a great find. Are you going to keep him as a single companion bird?

Hi Dylan,

No, I couldn't do that to a Zebra, they love company.

I will however try to handle him everyday, just to see if he will remain tame to some extent (although I doubt it :( ). He is a very sweet tiny little boy.

He also came with this nice cage...

Thanks girls,

He is very sweet.

When you say "Hi Koko", he responds with his tiny little meep-meep :D .

Thanks Ann,

I just hopes he stays at least partially tame with daily handling. You put your hand infront of him, and he just hops up with a little meep.... so so cute.

Thanks Lori,

The poor tiny fellow has absolutely no bird skills that I can see. I might just have to put him in a seperate cage and away from the Zebra flight, with one of the young Weanlings for company, until he gets used to the idea of being a bird.

Tame finches are so unusual I would keep him by himself, away from the other birds, and enjoy him as a special pet. Zebras tend to maul each other anyway, he's probably safer that way. Unlike a wild bird, if he likes you, then you would fulfill his social needs.

We shall see how things go Dylan.

I think one very young little companion should be ok.
I hate the thought of a lonely little bird....it seems so sad somehow :( .

Maybe a few gentle Societies....

lovezebs hi elena I don’t think it matter I have mine that is sort o tame who comes on my hand and she lives in my aviary and the other birds aren’t bothered and she hasn’t changed

Also in the past i used to have a zebra female I bough that would let me hold her and she was like this until I ended up having to give her away

I don’t think it bothers them going into a flock as long as you keep them used to you and everyday hold it like you said amd if they have had it alone for a year then it probably sees humans as no threat like normal zebras
