Need advice. single female cordon bleu finch

Post by Finchluv » Thu Dec 07, 2017 4:24 pm

So i have been asked by the woman who i got my zebras to take in her lone cordon bleu finch. I said yes before i really had time to process it. Im wondering if she will be ok with my society finches? Id keep her seperate from the other birds of course for a couple weeks. But is this a good option? I cant really turn back now :/

Yes, she should do well with them, and they will provide company. Societies are normally very social.

Finchluv

I would agree with Dylan.

Societies are usually fery friendly and excepting of other species of birds.

That said, if you have an opportunity to get her a companion of her own kind at some point, I would do so.

lovezebs thankyou, thats going to have to be my option. Ive been looking for a male, but here in colorado its difficult to find one for a reasonable price. Ive talked to 5 people now, all want over $100. So my search will be difficult i feel :(

Cordon Bleus will get along with Societies. She will love egg food and various chopped veggies, too. The nice thing about CBs, besides their gorgeous color, is that the hens also sing! Is this a Red-cheeked or Blue-capped?

My cordon bleu does very well with society finches. I have 6 birds in a mixed aviary. 2 society, one parrot finch, my cordon bleu and a pr of gold breasted. I will say, if there is any bickering going on it is my cordon bleu and somebody. He isn't mean, he can just be a little s*** disturber. 99% of the time it's all good.

I have my blue capped cordon bleu in a mixed aviary and he is perfectly behaved. Never caused a problem with any of the other birds (European goldfinches, lavenders, shaft tails, parrot finch, canary, gouldian).
I would also love to know if you have a blue capped or red cheeked hen. Red cheek cordon bleus are not very expensive here (about $40), blue caps completely unavailable for over a year now. If you can post a close-up picture of her, maybe we can tell which species she is (blue cap females have some light blue feathers on the forehead right above the beak, red cheeks don't).
