Oh no little firetail died

So this morning I found one of my new firetails dead on the floor I am curious how it happened but I think it may be because there was some comosion last night and there was neighbours arguing and some loud noises like something was smashed so I think they may have startled the finches and mayb he’s fell to the bottom and couldn’t get back up therefore was too cold as the floor is the coldest part and it was about -3 degrees last night

I don't think firetails are cold hardy at all, they come from a very hot climate and shouldn't be kept outside, at least not without a long acclimation.

Sheather really Ohright I difnt even think of that but my indoor pet is actually warm I have a heater in there it’s just obviously the floor gets cold like anything even in houses

By the way 5 out of 22, is almost 23%, which is quite a high percentage of loss .

I enter my two owl finches every night as it gets cold - near to +15ºC. I know they can tolerate even colder but
- they come from indoor-breeding
- they have no possibility to adapt to their first 'winter'.

Our little pets - 12g - are highly dependent from us. It's us who must take the right choice.
Five dead birds in one year wouldn't be acceptable for me.

lovezebs yeh buyback I sold 12 more of my birds and got rid of 5 a couple months back so alone in all I’ve had quite a few birds this year all the and the only one that’s died that’s I’ve actually looked after a while myself was Ginge and darky the others have all died in the first day of aciary

Fernando it is sad and it sounds bad but I’ve only had the aviary a couple of months and it’s hard it’s winter with all my birds before they could climertize all the birds that’s have died aren’t my ones apart from ginge and darky that’s why I didnt count them these other five have all died on the first days of me getting them

I would strongly recommend bringing your birds indoors in the winter, as it seems very apparent at least to me that the weather is too cold for them.

Sheather yeh I think I need to keep my new ones inside until the weather warms up but my others are okay because they had a couple of months to get used to it thanks for our help anyway because I really didn’t even think about cold hardy I just saw them in the cage and thought they look nice

Oh please! The www is full of information of every kind. Before you get a cute looking new bird, do your homework, because the bird can't do it for you!
There is enough expertise just in this finch forum for a good answer to any question, so you don't need to go far for adequate information about housing and temperatures.

Fernando Ano yeh I just thought because owls Java’s bengalease stars zebras canarys heck’s silverbills ..... are okay then these would be I wish the guy I bought them off would have said that they aren’t good with low temperatures like he’s said now I’ve rang up
